Wyrazy solidarności z Polską w obliczu wprowadzenia drakońskiego prawa spływają z całego świata.
W reakcji na procedowanie projektu “Zatrzymaj aborcję”, 203 organizacje międzynarodowe podpisały się pod listem wzywającym członków i członkinie polskiego parlamentu do wysłuchania głosu polskich kobiet i odrzucenia tego regresywnego projektu w ramach obrony zdrowia kobiet i ich praw człowieka. “Wyrażamy głębokie zaniepokojenie nieustającymi próbami ograniczania praw reprodukcyjnych kobiet w Polsce.
Jeśli ustawa „Zatrzymaj Aborcję” wejdzie w życie, będzie to oznaczało brak dostępu do zabiegu przerwania ciąży w Polsce dla kobiet, które otrzymają diagnozę ciężkiego lub śmiertelnego uszkodzenia płodu. Oficjalne statystyki z roku 2016 pokazują, że 96 procent legalnych zabiegów aborcji wykonywanych jest właśnie na podstawie tej przesłanki. Większość kobiet w Polsce, która decyduje się na przerwanie ciąży będącej skutkiem gwałtu, lub z powodu której zagrożone jest ich zdrowie, nie są w stanie uzyskać legalnego zabiegu, decydują się więc na podróż za granicę w celu dokonania aborcji. Ustawa ta jeszcze bardziej uniemożliwi kobietom, szczególnie tym ze środowisk mniej zamożnych oraz wiejskich, dostęp do bezpiecznej opieki aborcyjnej.
Uniemożliwianie kobietom dostępu do bezpiecznej i legalnej aborcji narusza wiele międzynarodowych zapisów dot. praw człowieka, w tym prawo do życia, zdrowia i opieki zdrowotnej, niedyskryminacji i równości, prywatności, oraz wolności od tortur i nieludzkiego lub poniżającego traktowania. Europejski Trybunał Praw Człowieka w przeszłości orzekł, że utrudniając szybki dostęp to aborcji, polski rząd naruszył prawa kobiet zawarte w Europejskiej Konwencji Praw Człowieka. Liczne międzynarodowe organy zajmujące się prawami człowieka, w tym Komitet Praw Człowieka, Komitet Praw Gospodarczych, Społecznych i Kulturalnych, Komitet ds. Likwidacji Wszelkich Form Dyskryminacji Kobiet, oraz Komitet Przeciwko Torturom, wezwały rządy państw do usunięcia barier w dostępie do usług aborcyjnych oraz zapewnienia dostępu do bezpiecznej i legalnej aborcji.”
